DESCRIPTION This study-unit will provide an introduction to psychology and psychological perspectives, as well as present a brief overview of research methods, professions, and fields in psychology. It will explore and explain the biological basis of behaviour, personality, conditioning, and social behaviour.

Study-unit Aims:

The aim of this study-unit is to offer non-psychology students a basic overview of psychological principles which can facilitate their understanding of human development and behavior in society in its various aspects, including biological basis of behaviour, perception, learning, personality, stress, health and illness, and social behaviour. It will serve as a basic study-unit in psychology which will enable students to follow undergraduate study-units in psychology with profit once they enrol in degree programmes at the University of Malta.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Explain basic psychological concepts and theories;
- Apply knowledge of a person's development in a social context;
- Describe individual differences and how these differences influence one's interpersonal relations.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Apply psychological concepts, theories and principles;
- Describe and explain, in essay form, human behaviour in various contexts.
