DESCRIPTION | The study-unit shall enable students of diplomacy to gain basic skills in the German language, culture and society. The German language is one of the most important languages spoken in Europe and in the European Union. Knowledge of the language allows access to the German culture as well as its literature and philosophy. German language is also widely used in international organizations and ranks as one of the most frequently used languages on the internet. This study-unit therefore provides intensive training in the German language which will be accompanied by the discovery of the social reality to which this language applies. By using a communicative approach priority is given to oral and written comprehension and oral and written production. During the 2nd semester the objectives of the 1st semester will be pursued and reinforced. It is also planned to enrich the course by visits of German speaking diplomats who will provide the students with interesting information about their working experiences. Study-Unit Aims: - To enable students of diplomacy to gain basic skills in the German language, culture and society. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - understand basic skills in the German language; - gain insight into German culture and society. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - communicate orally and in writing in the German language in general Main Text/s and any supplementary readings: - Handouts, based on the notion and function approach and mainly in dialogue form, are given to students according to their level. |
