| DESCRIPTION | The study-unit will be a continuation of the course German A1.1. It is part of a series of courses leading from German beginners’ level to level B1 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). In this study-unit, students will enhance their basic skills acquired in the previous study-unit in speaking, listening, writing and reading German in relation to concrete everyday-life situations, such as renting a flat, giving directions, ordering in restaurants and holding a basic telephone conversation in German. At the end of this study-unit on the level A1.2 (CEFR) the participants will have a basic vocabulary repertoire of words and phrases related to concrete situations. They will be able to establish social contacts with German speakers by using everyday polite forms and introductions. These are the first steps for living in a German speaking country or for communicating with German speaking business partners and colleagues. The study-unit is based on a communicative approach in class with a focus on applied German, starting from everyday-life situations to covering more broad topics as well as more specialised language use. Training includes all language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing, which are practiced according to the levels achieved. Study-unit Aims: The study-unit is designed to provide basic language skills in speaking, listening, writing and reading German in relation to concrete everyday-life situations at beginner level A1.2. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - show a basic understanding of correct German language use (reading, listening, speaking, writing) in different everyday-life situations; - have a basic vocabulary and phrases related to concrete situations; - understand simple oral conversations held in German; - understand simple texts in German. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - hold a basic telephone conversation in German; - establish social contacts with German speakers by using everyday polite forms and introductions; - hold basic conversations about a wider range of topics (e.g. renting a flat, giving directions, etc.).
