DESCRIPTION | Germany has one of the largest media landscapes in Europe and offers various possibilities of accessing information due to the variety of print media, TV, radio, and digital media. Despite the strong increase of online media, the German print market has remained surprisingly stable and still reaches a large readership. This study-unit focuses on different German-language media and offers an overview of the main aspects of the media market, whose role within a democratic culture will be reflected on. The language, style, and structure of media contributions will be analysed from a critical perspective. Furthermore, aspects of contemporary culture and society will be discussed. As far as possible, recent events and developments will be included. In this context, students will be encouraged to develop and voice their own opinions. Therefore, the study-unit material will predominantly consist of up-to-date articles, radio and/or TV programmes and other media contributions.
