TITLE Work Placement

UM LEVEL 05 - Postgraduate Modular Diploma or Degree Course

MQF LEVEL 7

ECTS CREDITS 5

DEPARTMENT Geosciences

DESCRIPTION Work placements can be very beneficial to help students determine the career path they wish to follow. The opportunity to experience the real-world working environment during the course will help students to stand out when compared to other applicants during job interviews. If taken seriously, the employer might even offer a sponsorship or an employment on graduation.

The second semester of the M.Sc course is designed in a flexible way such as to give students the opportunity to follow a work placement. Major stakeholders, government entities, as well as private companies, both in Malta and abroad, have already provided informal agreements to host students that follow this study-unit. The intensive one-week work-phase will involve job shadowing as well as carrying out tasks assigned by the supervisor. The coordinators will help each student to make contact with interested entities. Marks obtained after the submission of a log book and a report, as well as the delivery of a presentation, will contribute to the Master degree.

Study-Unit Aims:

This study-unit will help students identify an exciting career path. It will also allow them to start building their own professional network of collaborators as well as enhance their soft-skills that include working in a team and the ability to solve problems by applying the theory learnt in class.

The main goal is to provide all participants with recruitment opportunities both with local government and non-governmental entities, as well as Maltese and international private companies.
