DESCRIPTION This study-unit will look at the practical activities associated with working on a Ecclesiastical heritage site or museum. The study-unit will also look at ideas to enhance the visitors' experience whilst visiting such heritage sites or museums.

This study-unit will be divided into several parts:

- A half day tutorial at an ecclesiastical museum and a half day tutorial at an ecclesiastical archive. These are to acquaint participants with the different sections of these places, the kind of material data available etc
- Participants will be required to do a number of activities on site based on discussions and ideas covered during the Diploma in the Archival and Cultural Appreciation of Ecclesiastical Patrimony. They shall be required to undergo a Field Experience under adequate supervision as determined by the Board of Studies. During the period, students are encouraged to apply theory to practice. The field experience will be assessed on the basis of attendance, facility in applying theory to practice, quality of work produced. Each student will have a 50hr placement in an ecclesiastical archive and a 50 hr placement in an ecclesiastical museum.
- Students are also to do independent research and additional readings on archivistics and museology and prepare a report.
The study-unit will conclude with each student giving a 15minute presentation about their experience and situations encountered during a half day seminar

Study-Unit Aims:

The aims of this study-unit are

- to help students understand the basic tools of a curator
- to define how such tools are used within an ecclesiastical building or museum
- to operate the theoretical with the practical in the management of collections, developing of exhibitions and enhancing visitor experience.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Formulate and demonstrate what curatorial services entail and the various techniques that are utilized within the ecclesiastical heritage environment to fulfill those aims.
- Critically evaluate a museum exhibition based on the topics discussed which are prevalent to contemporary museums.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Evaluate technical aspects related to the presentation and the preservation of artifacts associated with Ecclesiastical heritage sites from various periods
- Operate in any job concerning the setting up, improvement and marketing of Ecclesiastical museums.
