DESCRIPTION The long essay study-unit provides each registered student with an opportunity to identify and investigate a research topic, considered by the board of studies of the Diploma in the archival and cultural appreciation of Ecclesiastical patrimony to be a suitable area of research that falls within the expertise of an allocated supervisor.

The long essay enables students to expand on the themes explored during the taught components of the diploma course, critically assess relevant literature and sources, and write a long essay in accordance with the course guidelines.

Study-Unit Aims:

The long esay is envisaged as the final stage of the diploma course in order for students to develop in depth an aspect of ecclesiastical heritage of their own choice.
The exercise is aimed at helping students develop skills in the research, argumentation, evaluation, and presentation in a specific research area.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Demonstrate acquired knowledge in an area of study related to Ecclesiastical Patrimony;
- Conduct research, evaluate sources, expound ideas and present them in a paper.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Recognize, and critically assess relevant literature;
- Classify and objectively present the results of their research;
- Write a long essay.
