DESCRIPTION This study-unit is designed to provide learners with the various pedagogies to teach effective communication skills, general health and safety principles, as well as first-aid skills. Learners will also acquire key aspects of these aspects. Various modes of assessment related to these areas will be explored throughout the study-unit.

Study-Unit Aims:

The main aim of this study-unit is to enable prospective Health and Social Care teachers to master the key principles of effective communication skills, general health and safety principles and first aid skills.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- describe pedagogical tools needed to engage students learning effective communication skills, health and safety principles and legislation related to health and social care environments as well as first aid skills;
- explain the concepts of effective communication skills, general health and safety principles and first aid skills;
- describe appropriate use different tools and equipment in relation to health and social care.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- assess students in relation to effective communication skills, general health and safety principles and first aid skills;
- use a blend of teaching and learning methods.
