DESCRIPTION | This study-unit focuses on advanced construction techniques used when producing textile items. These techniques are discussed and evaluated for appropriateness of purpose. The study-unit will mainly focus on the creation of samples, applying advanced garment construction techniques. Study-Unit Aims: This study-unit aims to offer students an opportunity to consolidate their skills in the construction techniques used in textiles acquired previous units. It will assist students to become more competent in the construction techniques pertaining to the field of textiles and fashion. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Identify different advanced construction techniques used in the textiles and fashion industry; - Outline step-by-step processes pertaining to different advanced construction techniques used in the textiles and fashion industry; - Describe construction elements involved in the various style features of different items of clothing in the fashion industry. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Choose appropriate fibres/fabrics/materials to suit the function and aesthetic construction feature required; - Implement advanced techniques that are necessary for the construction of various textile items and garments; - Construct an item of clothing; - Apply advanced sewing techniques following correct health and safety procedures.
