DESCRIPTION Part 1
Home Economics is a subject which is relevant to individuals from many spheres of life, and coming from different age groups. Therefore, Home Economics educators must be able to teach different audiences, with different goals and in different contexts and programmes. In today's context, HE teachers must be able to teach immigrant children and very ethnically diverse classrooms or groups. This study unit will address planning for and teaching different learners outside the secondary school years, such as in Primary and Early schools settings and in extension/community projects . It will also give an overview of lifelong learning trends and modes of learning.

Part 2
This study-unit then goes on to explore the role of Home Economics educators in relation to the mass media, including social media. Students learn how to critically analyse media messages and use mass media and social media experiences as learning tools in the classroom. They will also be exposed to mass media production and find ways of how to utilise social media as an effective far reaching tool. Basic TV programme production and presentation will also be explored.

Study-Unit Aims:

This unit will guide the students to identify and assess how Home Economics and Textiles feature in the printed, audio and electronic/visual media. The unit will allow for critical discussion and analysis of the media as an opinion maker and offer guidance on how to become a better communicator while defending oneself from certain media messages. The students will be exposed to skills-based sessions to be able to communicate better in class through the various media. This unit will also provide various opportunities for students to produce their own media resources and create innovative pedagogic experiences for use in the classroom and with learners and audiences in other settings.

Learning Outcomes:
