DESCRIPTION This study-unit addresses the various aspects related to the fundamental principles of health and wellbeing. It details the ways that good health benefits all in society. The study-unit will focus on areas such as healthy diet, regular exercise, work, rest, and positive thinking that link to the achievement and maintenance of physical fitness and mental stability, all affected by social, economic and environmental determinants. Students from ICT backgrounds will observe health professionals work in real time to inform them on the class discussions and on their assignment. The sessions will acknowledge WHO's launch of the global strategy on digital health 2020–2025 (in draft at the moment).

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit provides a pathway to understanding the fundamentals of health and wellbeing as a conduit to a sustained quality of life, as individuals, as nations, as populations. Students will have the opportunity to discuss them and apply those discussions to their perspectives as ICT professionals.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Critically evaluate the current determinants of health and their interconnectivity;
- Explain and evaluate the influence of physical activity on health and wellbeing;
- Rationalise new insights on the effect of nutrition on healthy lifestyles;
- Argue constructively on the importance of mental stability on wellbeing;
- Discuss the phenomenon illness and the human responses to illness;
- Explore the complex influence of palliative care on resilience and wellbeing.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Demonstrate the ability to promote health and wellbeing as non-health care professionals in an ICT environment with declared intended outcomes;
- Determine the value of enhancing health as a means of living fruitful lives even in the presence of disease;
- Construct and develop at least one link between health/wellbeing and the use of modern digital technology;
- Critically evaluate methodologies and methods which create and interpret information that may be used to promote or monitor health parameters.
