TITLE Practice Placement 1

UM LEVEL 01 - Year 1 in Modular Undergraduate Course

MQF LEVEL 5

ECTS CREDITS 8

DEPARTMENT Inclusion and Access to Learning

DESCRIPTION The practice placement component provides an opportunity for participating LSE trainees to reflect on and improve their practice in supporting learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. It also allows participants to examine the relationship between their practice and the theoretical knowledge gained. Through ongoing engagement and discussion with their tutors, the practice placement introduces LSEs to the process leading reflective practice.

The practice placement would include the building of a professional file with all relevant documentation, resources and support plans; a reflective journal kept throughout the year as part of their professional development journey; and a 6-week practicum dedicated to school/class contact during which student LSEs are carrying out duties supporting the classroom teacher with the class in general and in particular supporting one or more learners certified with having additional needs.

Study-unit Aims:

The aim of this study-unit is to provide trainee LSEs a range of opportunities to work collaboratively with class/subject teachers, in supporting all learners, in particular those experiencing difficulties.
