DESCRIPTION | The practice placement component provides an opportunity for participating trainee cultural mediators to reflect on and improve their practice in supporting clients with a migrant background. It also allows participants to examine the relationship between their practice and the theoretical knowledge gained during the course. Whilst on placement, students will be expected to involve themselves in general agency activities under the direct supervision of the host institution's experienced staff. Through ongoing engagement and discussion with their tutors and supervisors the practice placement introduces trainee cultural mediators to the process leading to reflective practice. The practice placement will include the building of a portfolio with all relevant documentation, resources and support plans; a reflective journal must be kept throughout the hours of placement as part of the students' professional development journey.
