DESCRIPTION | This study-unit seeks to expose students to the language and humanities curricula in the Primary years. In so doing these students will be able to become better knowledgeable of what these curricula aim to teach young learners in the inclusive primary school. The study-unit also aims to investigate how best to adapt these curricula to a differentiated classroom setting. In the 21st century teaching cannot remain one-size-fits-all but needs to take into consideration learners with language difficulties and those who are gifted and talented as well as the intercultural aspects within a classroom setting. Interwoven in the above content, differentiated instruction and planning for learners’ variability through various approaches will be explored. Study-Unit Aims: This study-unit aims to: - familiarise students with the national curriculum, with special focus on the languages (English, Maltese, Malti ghall-Barranin) and humanities curricula (Social Studies, Religion and Ethics); - familiarise students with how to understand and use the learning outcomes and in this way - determine what skills, knowledge and attitudes are required out of primary school learners within these areas of learning; - analyse learning outcomes found in the curriculum site; - design lesson plans which suit the needs of students within 21st century classrooms; - prepare resources to suit the needs of primary school learners within 21st century classrooms.
