DESCRIPTION | The dissertation study-unit is aimed at complementing the taught component of the degree programme, and provides space for students to research a topic in digital health. A research challenge will be investigated, compared to related work, implemented (if of a technical nature), and evaluated. The research findings will be presented in a dissertation and an oral presentation, and defended during a viva-voce examination. Study-unit Aims: The aim of the dissertation is to provide students with a unit of independent research complementing the knowledge they will acquire during the taught components of the degree programme. The dissertation provides them with the opportunity to specialize within a topic of digital health by conducting research in it. Students are thereby also exposed to the research process, acting upon a proposed research topic by executing it through its implementation and evaluation, finally culminating in the presentation and defence of the resulting research findings. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Critically analyze literature; - Identify and discuss open research problems; - Build upon the state of art technologies related to digital health; - Evaluate the contribution being proposed; - Analyze research findings in order to draw conclusions; - Present research findings through proper reporting and oral presentations with due precision and rigour in relation to the dissertation topic. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Propose new ideas within research proposals; - Conduct original research under supervision; - Structure one’s thought in a logical manner; - Evaluate existing academic/industrial research results or commercial initiatives and their relation to the dissertation topic.
