DESCRIPTION | In this study-unit learners will be introduced to a basic yet thorough functional and notional knowledge of the French language. It will focus on the skills of speaking, writing, reading, and listening at elementary and pre-intermediate levels. Study-Unit Aims: The aim is to give learners an introduction to the French language and the cultural contexts in which the language is used; it will use a communicative and task-based approach to engage learners and motivate them to use the newly acquired structures appropriately and effectively. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Recognise elementary level grammatical structures. - Identify different classes of lexical items. - Infer cultural meanings from texts. - Identify basic communication in verbal and written communication. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Structure appropriate sentences for a basic level of communication. - Organise new lexical items. - Construct basic paragraphs to communicate basic ideas. - Participate in class pair and group work using the target structures.
