DESCRIPTION | This study-unit builds on French 1 in Semester 1. In this study-unit learners will be introduced to a basic yet thorough functional and notional knowledge of the French language. It will focus on the skills of speaking, writing, reading, and listening at pre-intermediate and intermediate levels. Study-Unit Aims: The aim is to build upon the French 1 study-unit by extending the introduction to the French language and the cultural contexts in which it is used; it will use a communicative and task-based approach to engage learners and motivate them to use the newly acquired structures appropriately and effectively. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Recognize intermediate level grammatical structures. - Identify different classes of lexical items. - Infer cultural meanings from texts. - Comprehend intermediate communication in verbal and written communication. - Comprehend the use of complex idiomatic expressions. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Structure appropriate sentences for an intermediate level of communication. - Organise new lexical items. - Construct intermediate structures to communicate complex ideas. - Integrate the use of more complex idioms in spoken and written communication. - Participate in class pair and group work using the target structures.
