DESCRIPTION | IFS0426 will help students wishing to join the foundation programme to engage with a variety of grammatical structures in English and to complete a variety of academic tasks that will allow them to demonstrate their ability to construct accurate structures is English at this level. Study-Unit Aims: The study-unit aims to introduce a variety of academic text types to students with no-to-little prior experience of engaging with the academic requirmements of accurately produced written communication according to the rules of grammar and grammatical composition. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Distinguish between a variety of grammatical structures in different academic text types; - identify their form, meaning, and use in the context of academic expression. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - complete a variety of task tpyes from gap fill to complete re-writing of sentences; - write the correct verbal forms; - use reporting verbs accurately; - correct systematic errors in texts; - check spelling and punctuation.
