DESCRIPTION This study-unit is designed to enable students to develop the academic writing skills that will enable them to successfully function in an English speaking academic context in the study of business and commerce. They will study writing at word, sentence, paragraph and whole text level and also work on the planning process.

Study-Unit Aims:

To assist students to learn academic writing skills at paragraph and text level and apply such skills in context.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to produce the following text types in clear and concise English:
- Description and analysis of data presented in figures and tables.
- Description of a process.
- Definition paragraphs.
- Short answer questions.
- Paraphrases of short paragraphs.
- Summary.
- Argumentative essay.
- Compare and Contrast essay.
- Problem and solution essay.
- Extended investigative essay.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Express complex ideas in a logical sequence using appropriate structures.
- Describe data and processes related to business and commerce in writing.

Foundation in Academic Business English: Writing Coursebook and Workbook Wilkinson, N'Shea and Stabile 2017. In-house textbooks.
