DESCRIPTION This study-unit will focus on introducing key themes in research as well as basic statistical investigations as relevant for students in tourism studies. The unit will introduce different types of variables and measurements as well as diagrams and visualised data and their interpretation. Students will also be taught how to work with probability, different sampling techniques, and how to design questionnaires and surveys.

Study-unit Aims:

The study-unit aims to introduce students to the quantitative techniques used in Tourism Studies and to sensitise them to a structured approach to model building.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Explain the difference between quantitative and qualitative methods.
- Explain the advantages and limitations of both quantitative and qualitative methods.
- Explain the various ways of collecting data and how they are organised for research and professional practice.
- Analyse how data and research are linked to the broader theme of tourism studies.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Collect basic data related to tourism.
- Analyse these data accurately.
- Communicate them effectively in visual, textual,and oral modalities.
