DESCRIPTION | The thesis should be written under the supervision of a member of the teaching staff. The thesis, should not be less than 45,000 and not more than 50,000 words, and will be expected to involve original research and to demonstrate a close linkage with the material covered in core or elective courses. The topic is to be selected by the participant and approved by the Faculty. The thesis must demonstrate a comprehensive grasp of the relevant literature and an ability to engage in critical analysis. More credit will be given for originality and evidence of independent thinking, whether in terms of the material used, or the manner in which it is presented. Merely rehearsing familiar arguments or reproducing material available in existing publications will be less valued and be awarded a lower grade. |

ADDITIONAL NOTES | **September Assessment Session: Students who fail to obtain an overall pass mark will be re-examined in the Dissertation. However, the resit availability for the Oral Examination is at the discretion of the Board of Examiners. | ||||||||||||
