DESCRIPTION Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) is fast becoming one of the key corporate issues of our time, moving beyond simple corporate social responsibility or public relations exercises to emerge as an important strategic consideration for businesses and organizations alike.

The purpose of this unit is to present students with a solid foundation in ESG issues and concepts, as well as the various tools available to properly measure performance in this regard and manage any ensuing risks. An indicative list of topics covered in this module include:

- Introduction to ESG issues
- Externalities from ESG
- Environmental risks
- Basics of environmental risk management
- Introduction to governance and regulations
- Social risks
- Measuring ESG performance.

Study-Unit Aims:

- To provide students with an introduction to ESG issues, opportunities and risks in the global business world;
- To develop a basic understanding of the relevance of ESG within today's corporate environment.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Review the various ESG issues and principles present today in the business world;
- Assess the risks resulting from ESG issues;
- Evaluate numerous metrics and methods to measure ESG performance by businesses and organizations.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Read, interpret and understand the latest developments in ESG published in leading academic journals within the field, and explain these ideas in a coherent manner both in written and in oral form;
- Apply the concepts learned to undertake their own independent research, as well as to supplement understanding of risk management in their future careers.
