DESCRIPTION Students follow a supervised, mentored and monitored work placement which is jointly designed with the partner organisation and formalised through an individual written traineeship agreement. This study-unit is comprised entirely of a work placement for 3 - 6 months at one of the humanitarian organisations of the NOHA alliance group.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to:
- Provide students with a good way of getting to know what the professional options are in the field of Humanitarian Action;
- Enhance students' chances of finding suitable employment;
- Help students discover their abilities to perform in a broader environment;
- Provide students with the opportunity to gain experience in job applications;
- Provide students with the opportunity to apply the knowledge, insights and skills they acquire through the Master's Programme in International Humanitarian Action in a practical setting;
- Provide an important link for students between their studies and the job market.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate the capacity to apply theoretical knowledge in practical situations;
- Demonstrate familiarity with the Humanitarian Action work-field in general and in terms of access to the labour market in particular;
- Display a correct awareness of the organisational context with regard to humanitarian employment;
- Determine his/her own ambition in relation to the Humanitarian Action work-field.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate the capacity to work in accordance with the demands of the HA workfield;
- Demonstrate the capacity to apply theoretical knowledge in practical situations;
- Demonstrate the capacity to function satisfactorily in a team (such as in projects) in a professional HA setting;
- Show an ability to present him/herself on the Humanitarian Action labour market;
- Show an ability to identify personal learning goals and identify contributions to such goals;
- Demonstrate the capacity to self-reflect and assess personal strengths and weaknesses.

The list of readings pertaining to each student's placement would depend on the student's choice of NOHA Partner and his/her particular choice of subject.
