DESCRIPTION This study unit will require the student to carry out independent study in the form of a dissertation. The topic of research will be developed in conjunction with the academic faculty and tutors will be assigned accordingly.

Study-unit Aims

The aims of the study unit is to provide an opportunity for the student to demonstrate his understanding and application of the knowledge and skills gained throughout the year in research.

Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- communicate aspects of the area of study in the dissertation
- apply technological tools effectively

2. Skills (including transferable [generic] skills): By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- writing academic research
- apply subject specific terminology
- use or develop software tools to support research
- communicate results of research through written and viva examination

ADDITIONAL NOTES **September Assessment Session: Students who fail to obtain an overall pass mark will be re-examined in the Dissertation. However, the resit availability for the Oral Examination is at the discretion of the Board of Examiners.
