DESCRIPTION This study-unit is an upper-intermediate course dedicated to the Italian language and Italian civilization. It combines grammar, vocabulary and communication skills studied in real life situations and is designed for students who would like to express themselves in a wide range of situations.

Study-unit Aims:

- To increase the students’ vocabulary in Italian and to enhance and consolidate the use of more complex sentence structures;
- To improve the students’ ability of spoken and written Italian;
- To improve reading and listening comprehension skills;
- To improve an awareness of the main grammatical aspects of Italian;
- To create an awareness of complex topics of Italian civilization and culture.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- understand the main ideas of concrete/abstract topics of a complex Italian text, such as a number of topics in the user’s area of expertise;
- communicate with spontaneity and fluency with a native speaker;
- engage in conversation on a number of subjects; express an opinion on current affairs.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- make use of a wider Italian vocabulary and use more complex language structures;
- understand and discuss topics on media, lifestyles and socio-cultural themes.

A course pack with a selection of theoretical and critical readings will be made available.
