DESCRIPTION | Students are required to submit an individual dissertation of approximately 50,000 words in length in accordance with the guidelines regarding format issued by the Board of the Faculty of Laws. The dissertation, together with any research underpinning it, must be conducted under the supervision of a duly assigned supervisor. The dissertation must demonstrate the student’s original research, while also displaying a comprehensive grasp of the relevant literature underpinning the dissertation. Study-unit Aims: • To have students conduct postgraduate research in law; • To direct students to constructively engage with legal scholarship; • To enable students to write a supervised postgraduate dissertation in law; • To furnish students with the means to present postgraduate research in law. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: • Engage with the branch of legal scholarship underpinning his/her dissertation; • Correctly use research methods and methodologies to conduct research in law; • Contribute to legal scholarship by way of a postgraduate dissertation in law. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: • Conduct postgraduate research in law; • Write a well conceptualized, well-researched, methodologically coherent and rationally robust postgraduate dissertation in law; • Disseminate findings arising from the research underpinning the written work of the study-unit. ADDITIONAL NOTES | **September Assessment Session: Students who fail to obtain an overall pass mark will be re-examined in the Dissertation.
