DESCRIPTION | This study-unit starts by familiarizing MTL students with the grammatical aspects included in the middle school (year 7 and 8) syllabi. After this, the study-unit moves on to give MTL students the opportunity to refine their grammatical competences linked to the topics included in the middle school syllabi. Throughout the study-unit, since the very early stages, students are expected to also identify what helps them learn grammar and critically reflect about how to use these techniques when teaching middle school students in the near future. Study-Unit Aims: The main aims of this particular study unit are: 1. to introduce students to the grammar aspects covered in Maltese GFL middle school classrooms; 2. to identify challenges students encounter related to GFL grammar points; 3. to show students how through solving their own struggles which they encounter when studying grammar, they themselves can serve as motivators to the students they will teach in GFL middle school classes. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Examine the Grammar related content included in Middle-school GFL syllabi; 2. Consider the strengths and the challenges they face when answering grammar exercises; 3. Evaluate different techniques through which grammar-learning could become more motivating and grammar rules can offer less challenges to the learner. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Assess their GFL grammar skills as GFL teachers and how this affects the GFL learning contexts they will work in; 2. Help middle school GFL students notice that there are different motivating techniques through which grammar learning may be fun and less challenging; 3. Analyze different methods and develop different skills through which they can improve student (and their own i.e. as prospective teachers) GFL grammar competence.
