DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will guide students on how to write a Long Essay. It will not only provide them with the necessary academic legal writing skills but also with academic research methodology. The study-unit will address referencing guides, how to avoid plagiarism, research ethics, qualitative and quantitative research, and writing a long essay. Study-Unit Aims: To teach students how to write a Long Essay. In order to do so, students will be taught academic research methodology and how to apply the various academic legal writing skills to the subject of the long essay. The study-unit aims to teach students how to engage in research in the field and how to use different academic research methodologies towards the end of writing a long essay. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - apply legal writing skills; - design research questions, formulate a literature review, combine theories and hypotheses, construct a research design, implement research and apply from an ethical viewpoint and, generally, know why certain processes have to be followed in order to be able to write any piece of legal work; - learn academic research methodology and the theory behind writing a long essay. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - write a long essay; - research the law; - access legal sources.
