DESCRIPTION | This unit will examine what is expected of the student teacher while delivering the Social Studies lessons. As a subject it includes various contemporary topics which are close to the students' everyday life. This unit will introduce the basics of Social Studies, the pedagogy of the subject, the curriculum of the subject, latest developments and how to help students feel the importance of the subject matter. Study-Unit Aims: The aims of this study-unit are to: - Provide an opportunity for students to discuss the current Social Studies Curriculum and identify the depth of the topics to teach. - Identify the different teaching styles in Social Studies lessons, and which styles are advisable in certain situations. - Integrate what is happening in society as examples in the lessons. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Identify the current Social Studies curriculum, the rationale behind it, official curriculum websites and resources available. - Define the different depth to reach with different classes. - Identify ways to help students organize their thoughts, discuss and structure their writing. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will: - Be able to create differentiated worksheets and marking criteria. - Be able to create different resources (both traditional and digital). - Gain competence in planning and conducting social studies lessons using the current curriculum framework. - Be able to conduct the integrated and thematic approach in the teaching and learning of Social Studies.
