DESCRIPTION The content of the study-unit covers:
- Principles of digitisation of analogue and caring for digitally born cultural heritage;
- Selection and prioritisation in digital cultural heritage;
- Assessment, including user needs;
- Preparation of originals for digitization;
- Metadata capture and creation. Automated metadata generation;
- Digitization and creation of data collections;
- Modern trends in access. Visualisation. Multilingual access;
- Submission of digital resources to delivery systems and repositories.

Study-Unit Aims:

- Evaluate existing digital resources and their fitness for research, teaching and leisure uses;
- Apply different prioritisation principles to select material for digitisation;
- Plan a simple digitisation workflow;
- Estimate timelines and efforts for a digitisation project;
- Work on practical aspects of digitisation;
- Assess quality of digitisation work;
- Analyse strategies for extending existing digital resources and evaluate efforts and costs for such tasks.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
