DESCRIPTION This study-unit will consist of a description, discussion and analysis of the different types of Melitensia as have evolved over time, from print to electronic formats. Issues relating to the development of a comprehensive national collection of Melitensia, bibliographic control and the existence and content of various Melitensia collections in Malta and abroad will also be delved into.

Study-unit Aims:

To familiarise students with the concept of melitensia, what it comprises and the provenance and characteristics of of such material.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- List the major characteristics of what constitutes melitensia material;
- Explain and report upon the present difficulties where the preservation and bibliographic description of melitensia is concerned;
- Analyse the present legal deposit situation where melitensia is concerned.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Students will be expected to be in a position to critically assess the situation of melitensia and its bibliographic control are concerned;
- Formulate ways and means through which a more comprehensive national collection of melitensia may be created in a national setting;
- Distinguish clearly the constituent elements of melitensia.
