DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will be offered using a blended modality. Students will therefore have the opportunity to attend to interact in person & remotely with their peers while they do hands-on activities. The hands-on activities will include the use of a variety of digital applications and modalities that reflect how digitally mediated learning may be performed. In this study-unit, the students will therefore be able to experiment with various hands-on applications and experience digitally mediated modalities in real time. This will therefore include the employment of diverse and relevant forms of digitally mediated practices. Subsequently it should enhance and facilitate the opportunity for participants to critically reflect on and appraise current, new and emergent digital modalities. Ultimately this is directed to enhance participants’ content delivery accordingly with respective subject areas but also in a cross-thematic manner across various subjects. Study-Unit Aims: • Expose learners to aspects of digital practices, and the meaning underlying digital literacies. • Show students how to channel the employment of digitally mediated learning for personalised learning experiences. • Enable participants on how best to avail themselves of digital applications for teaching and learning in their subject and in a cross thematic manner. • Teach Students the mechanics, functionality and educational validity underlying employed digital applications. • Show attendees how to enhance traditional learning with digitally enabled tools in various disciplines and across disciplines. • Include experimentation with, and exploration of new tools, new modalities of digitally enhanced learning and the employment of applications that can support the creation of digitally mediated activities. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: a. Create and employ hands-on digitally mediated activities to enhance content delivery b. Reflect on various qualities that different digital tools platforms and applications can procure to enhance student participation giving meaning to facts through active interactions, practice and communication c. List practical examples and personal experiences of different patterns in human behaviour that can be observed between the physical and the virtual space d. Build a portfolio from their respective activities that will ultimately reflect the work they performed as coursework during their lectures 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: a. Apply different hands-on teaching and learning approaches aimed at delivering learning experiences that are relevant, purposeful, stimulating and engaging in context of different content b. Employ digital applications to essentially communicate and complement content material c. Devise plans and methods towards solving set problems and achieving personal goals for content delivery through digital applications d.
