| DESCRIPTION | Din it-taqsima hija maħsuba għal min segwa l-MAL0011 u l-MAL0012 u/jew diġà għandu ħakma bażika tal-ilsien Malti. Dawk li jidħlu għaliha jitgħallmu jużaw il-Malti biex jikkomunikaw dwar temi ġenerali, bħall-ambjent naturali, l-ilbies u l-passatempi, u dwar sitwazzjonijiet li ġraw fl-imgħoddi u pjanijiet għall-ġejjieni. It-taqsima tfasslet fuq il-prinċipji tal-Qafas Ewropew Komuni ta’ Referenza għall-Ilsna tal-Kunsill tal-Ewropa (CEFR). L-istudenti li jtemmu t-taqsima b’suċċess jistgħu jitqiesu li laħqu l-Livell Bażiku A2 tas-CEFR. This study-unit is designed for students who have followed MAL0011 and MAL0012 and/or already have basic knowledge of Maltese. Participants will learn how to communicate in Maltese about general topics, such as the natural environment, clothing and hobbies, as well as about situations from the past and plans for the future. The unit is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe (CEFR). Hence, on completion of MAL0013, successful students may be considered to have achieved the CEfBasic Level A2 of the CEFR3. Study-unit Aims: The aim of this unit is to teach basic Maltese to international students, covering the four main skills needed for complete communication: listening, speaking, reading and writing. During the sessions students will (a) come across phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance; (b) learn to catch the main point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements; (c) practise reading very short, simple texts; (d) communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities; and (e) write short, simple notes and messages relating to matters in areas of immediate need, such as a simple personal letter. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - engage in basic communication on a range of familiar topics; - talk about general topics, including the natural world, vacation plans, clothing, movies and hobbies; - describe an accident or injury, get medical help from a doctor and fill a prescription for medicine; - relate events from their past, including weekend activities and interesting stories; - describe their past life, giving details about important milestones. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - understand sentences and frequently used words and expressions in Maltese related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment); - communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters; - describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
