| DESCRIPTION | Din it-taqsima hija maħsuba għal min ikun segwa b'suċċess l-ewwel tliet livelli offruti għal dan il-kors: l-MAL0011, MAL0012 u l-MAL0013 u/jew wasal fil-livell preintermedju (CEFR A2) fit-tagħlim tal-Malti bħala lsien barrani. Il-parteċipanti li jidħlu għaliha jitgħallmu jużaw il-Malti biex jikkomunikaw dwar temi ġenerali bħas-saħħa, il-karriera u l-kultura b'iktar dettall, u dwar sitwazzjonijiet li jitolbu iżjed għarfien lessikali bħad-dehra u d-deskrizzjoni tal-personalità. It-taqsima hi mfassla fuq il-prinċipji tal-Qafas Ewropew Komuni ta’ Referenza għall-Ilsna tal-Kunsill tal-Ewropa (CEFR). L-istudenti li jtemmu t-taqsima b’suċċess jistgħu jitqiesu li jkunu laħqu l-Livell Bażiku B1 tas-CEFR. This study-unit is designed for students who have successfully followed the first three level offered for this course: MAL0011, MAL0012 and MAL0013 and/or already have basic knowledge of Maltese as a Foreign Language. Participants will learn how to communicate in Maltese about general topics such as health, career and culture in more detail, as well as about situations requiring further lexical knowledge such as appearances and personality description. The unit is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe (CEFR). Hence, on completion of MAL0014, successful students may be considered to have achieved the Basic Level B1 of the CEFR. Study-unit Aims: This unit enables students to enhance and acquire Maltese language skills in reading writing, listening, and speaking at an intermediate level. In addition, it supports each skills-based lesson with speaking activities designed to give students the opportunity to acquire and practice vocabulary and grammar. The main objective at this level is to enable the students to understand and speak in the past and future tenses. They should be able to speak about their life, to retell their biography, to value experiences, or to express desires and basic hypotheses. The unit prepares the student to understand written texts from real life, such as announcements, TV shows, and simple brochures. The unit not only enriches the students’ vocabulary but also consolidates the structures and knowledge that the students have, while increasing their confidence and self-assurance while speaking. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - read articles and reports concerned with contemporary problems in which the writers adopt particular attitudes or viewpoints; - write clear text on a wide range of subjects related to their interests; - write letters highlighting the personal significance of events and experiences; - interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible; - take an active part in discussion in familiar contexts, accounting for and sustaining their views; - understand extended speech and lectures and follow lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar; - understand to a certain degree TV news and current affairs programmes. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - understand the main points of clear texts in standard language if they are about topics with which they are familiar, whether in work, study, or leisure contexts; - cope with most of the situations that might arise on a trip to areas where the language is used; - produce simple, coherent texts about topics with which they are familiar or in which they have a personal interest; - describe experiences, events, wishes, and aspirations, as well as briefly justify opinions or explain plan.
