DESCRIPTION The Anatomy project may include a dissection, a literature review, a database, a systemic review, a scientific experiment or any other related modality which enhances the understanding of any aspect of anatomy, histology and/or embryology.

The Physiology long essay is a literature review of a topic of that is chosen from a number of projects proposed by the tutors (lecturers within the Physiology and Biochemistry), which is related to any aspect of physiology and/or biochemistry.

Study-unit Aims:

The aim of the anatomy project is to show a deep understanding of any particular aspect of anatomy, histology or embryology through the presentation of a piece of work related to the study and understanding of the human body.

The aim of the long essay about a chosen topic related to physiology is to familiarize medical students with the process of conducting an up-to-date scientific literature review.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Explain the work done on 2 projects: one for Anatomy and one for Physiology;
- Describe how to dissect a prosection using embalmed donated cadavers, as part of the anatomy project;
- Explain aspects of research on a particular aspect of anatomy and/or physiology.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Conduct on-line and library research activities in a professional manner;
- Organise and integrate the material in a coherent fashion;
- Present scientific material in a concise and logical order;
- Perform a dissection project on a cadaver;
- Analyse literature on two projects - one for Anatomy and one for Physiology;
- Dissect a prosection using embalmed donated cadavers, as part of the anatomy project;
- Write a comprehensive literature review on a particular aspect of anatomy and/or physiology.
