DESCRIPTION This study-unit exposes concepts concerning the applicability and management of technology within contemporary organisations. The student will learn how the effective adoption of technology assists firms become lean, responsive, flexible and make maximum effective use of its workers. Central to this approach the student will appreciate that designing and developing digital solutions involves applying human-centred principles to reach and interact with all stakeholders. The aim is to increase customer satisfaction, boost employee productivity and improve operating efficiency.

Study-Unit Aims:

- To provide students with an understanding on how technology enables organisations to succeed in a global economy;
- To analyse how firms can implement technology in their organisational structure;
- To provide students with concepts and frameworks in order to select and implement technology effectively in an organisation.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Critically understand the factors that influence effective technology implementation;
- Recognize an organisation's necessity to have a holistic and sustainable strategy;
- Define likely scenarios of the future direction of technology in contemporary organisations.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Appraise opportunities for digital processes within organisations;
- Assess and apply concepts and models that are human-centred;
- Evaluate critically current practice on creating effective digital work processes.
