DESCRIPTION | This study-unit aims at introducing students to the research method in preparation for the submission of the literature review and research dissertation. Special emphasis is made on critique of the literature, referencing, and preparation of the research proposal. Content: • The Scientific Method and Experimental Design • Sources of information • Review of the literature • Referencing and avoiding plagiarism • Evaluation of a research project (critique) • Ethics in research • Writing a research proposal • Writing a dissertation • Presenting data • Poster and Oral Presentations of Scientific Work. Learning Outcomes By the end of this study-unit, students should be able to: • Design a small research project and write a research proposal; • Identify ethical considerations and apply for ethical approval for their research project; • Review relevant literature and write a concise literature review; and • Prepare and deliver a presentation on their proposed research project.
