DESCRIPTION | The study-unit will cover op amp fundamentals and circuitry including: the Op-amp concept and its implementation, design, construction and manufacture. The Ideal and practical op-amp characteristics are presented together with selection criteria and considerations and designs with Non idealities in Operational Amplifiers. The op amp Open loop characteristics and applications, particularly as Comparator are presented together with applications with Negative Feedback: Feedback Ratio, Voltage follower, Inverting, Noninverting Amps, Adder, Subtractor, Integrator, Differentiator, Log, Antilog, Negative Resistance, Howland Current Source, Deboo Integrator, (Deboo Oscillator), Super-Rectifier, Peak Detector, Gyrator, Instrumentation Amplifier and Positive Feedback Applications: Multivibrators: The Schmitt Trigger (Bistable),The Relaxation Oscillator (Astable) and Op-amp Applications: the 555 Timer IC: construction, operation and applications. Study-unit Aims This study-unit also introduces the Operational Amplifier (opamp) and by giving students sufficient insight into its principle of operation. Voltage feedback opamp circuits are discussed. Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Describe the internal principle of operation of the opamps - Describe the properties of an ideal and non-ideal typical opamp . - Analyse and design oscillator and multivibrator circuits, Integrators, Differentiators, Adders, Subtractors, Log, Antilog etc... 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Build and test various operational amplifier circuits Main Text/s and any supplementary readings - Franco, Sergio, Design with Operational Amplifiers and Analog Integrated Circuits.
