DESCRIPTION | The aim of this research project is to help participants focus on one or more aspects of environmental ethics that particularly interests them. The project is completed under the guidance of a supervisor as a research collaborator who would usually be one of the lecturers in the MA in Environmental Ethics programme of studies. The project must have a significant ethical component and might also need to be discussed with an ethicist who might also need to be co-supervisor of the research project. The project also has the aim of helping students familiarize themselves with the literature related to their area of interest or to conduct a pilot or preliminary study that will lay the groundwork for their dissertation, although students would be free to choose a completely different topic for their dissertation. Regardless of the topic, and of whether they opt for a more research or practice-oriented project, all students will be guided to: - Research methodology; - Plan their project with clear aims and objectives; - Plan a clear initial bibliography on the topic (students will be guided by their supervisor); - Critically review and discuss relevant literature; - Identify, evaluate, and implement a suitable methodology; - Critically analyze and evaluate project results and their implications; - Prepare and submit an academic paper; - Choose a journal to submit their research to. Study-Unit Aims: This study-unit aims: - To provide students with the opportunity to hone in skills in methodology; - To provide students with the opportunity to engage with a research topic in detail; - To develop students' ability to plan and implement a project collaboratively with a supervisor as a senior researcher; - To enable students to learn, through first-hand experience, the process of preparing and submitting an article for publication (independently of acceptance); - To present the paper in a symposium. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Critically discuss different methodologies for research projects; - Employ the Chicago Style of referencing; - Develop specialist knowledge in a particular field related to environmental ethics; - Demonstrate an understanding of the process of preparing and submitting an academic paper; - Present the paper in a symposium. 2.
