DESCRIPTION Vocal Ensemble develops the students' concept of inner hearing and musical interpretation through the performance of choral music. Ensemble performance of selected repertoire in Classical and popular styles forms an integral part of this unit. Particular importance will be attached to interpretation, style, and intonation through voice projection.

Aims:

This study-unit aims to:
a) enhance students' sensitivity to matters of style, tone, and nuance in historical contexts of the repertoire to be performed;
b) provide students with opportunities to choral performances;
c) introduce students to the choral music repertoire.

Learning Outcomes:

Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

a) explore choral music;
b) attain basic elements of choral singing techniques relating to proper breathing, intonation, style, vocal nuance and matters of ensemble technique;
c) familiarise themselves with a range of musical styles.

Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

a) master the techniques of singing in a vocal ensemble;
b) enhance his/her general musicianship;
c) acquire sensibility to improve proper intonation when singing in a vocal ensemble.
