DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will offer instruction on how to organise, produce, and market performances, and how to network for further professional opportunities. The unit gives an overview of the cultural policies underlying the culture and creative sectors both in Malta and the EU, gives an overview of the current grants available in the context of current cultural policies in Malta and the EU, and how to manage an artistic project. It also explores the roles of different stakeholders in the culture and creative industries, investigating how performers can access funds and other resources to stage productions, manage their project, disseminate information about their projects, and market their performances in appropriate and effective ways. This study unit prepares the student to start managing himself/herself as a freelance artist and/or managing other artists and have an overview of the structures available to work in the cultural and creative industry, including public cultural organisations. Study-Unit Aims: 1. Be able to prepare a funding proposal for a musical project; 2. Use a variety of promotional strategies to reach wider audiences and maximise engagement; 3. Engage productively with a range of institutions which support music. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: a) Establish the fundamentals required for designing and producing a successful performance; b) Apply effective marketing strategies to promote performances to appropriate audiences; c) Recognise essential characteristics and applications of the culture and creative industries, especially in relation to arts and culture in Malta; d) Demonstrate the ability to manage musical projects and grant applications. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: a) Plan a musical performance with effective organisation and marketing; b) Write a grant application with description, aims and budget according to the guidelines of a specific grant; c) Explore effective strategies to network with national and international performers and stakeholders in the culture and creative industries.
