DESCRIPTION | This study-unit provides students with the possibility to explore, discuss, and analyse compositions written for a range of percussion instruments. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to: (a) expose percussion students to a wide range of compositions written specifically for percussion; (b) assist students combine the study of the percussion repertoire to practice. Learning Outcomes: Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: a) identify the right approach to musical performance on the percussion; b) evaluate a musical piece in the wider context of the composer's style; c) recognise contemporary percussion notation and techniques. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: a) show strong understanding of the prepared pieces; b) prepare well-written and concise programme notes; c) discuss in detail a number of compositions for percussion; d) give evidence of technical dexterity and informed interpretation.
