DESCRIPTION | This study-unit is designed as an introduction to the professional world of music-making in the braodest possible sense. The study-unit provides an opportunity for students to hone their practice through individualised instruction on projects best suited to their particular profile as a performer, composer, or researcher and integrate this profile into international communities of professionals. Through collaborative work, and/or specific tuition, it aims to help students engage with entities and professionals in the music world in order to carry out a specific research project. Study-unit Aims: (a) Provide students with appropriate tools to obtain a secure grasp of the professional music world and its complexities; (b) Allow students to develop research and tuition that will allow them to obtain more practical knowledge of musical realities both in Malta and abroad; (c) Encourage students to integrate their musical practice into diverse international communities and institutions. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: (a) write research proposals; (b) put the proposal to practice and conduct in-depth research on a specific area of studies in musical composition,musicology, and performance; (c) apply material generated from their research to the written assignments for this and other units. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: (a) formulate a research project and establish necessary parameters for its successful completion; (b) carry out research using the appropriate research methodologies; (c) demonstrate critical and analytical skills, in written form, on the topic chosen. |
