| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit further develops the skills and techniques taught in the Performance 1&2: Vocal Training in Pop and Music Theatre. In addition to more advanced vocal training and engagement with more advanced repertoire, this study-unit will examine and discuss issues related to careers as a vocal performer in the areas of popular music and musical theatre. Study-Unit Aims: a) provide vocal students with a good level of performance skills to improve their musical capabilities in order to succeed as performers; b) equip students with knowledge of interpretation of various genres of pop and musical theatre, including contemporary music; c) guide students to new sounds and techniques. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: a) recognise the development of vocal repertoire to the present; b) appraise and master modern technical possibilities of the voice; c) identify major works for the voice and build up an effective and contrasting programme; d) have the tools to be self-critical, prepare a musically-rendered performance and prepare effective programme notes. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: a) Acquire the skills to deploy historical and stylistic issues in performance; b) Adapt playing techniques to a high level of performance. | ADDITIONAL NOTES | Pre-requisite Qualifications: Intermediate level of knowledge and technique in singing. All students are required to sit for an audition. The audition will be held during the period prior to registering for the study-unit. Pre-requisite Study-units: MSP1279, MSP2286, MSP2287 |
