DESCRIPTION | This study-unit includes the preparation for, and the performances of the 3 public concerts which are required for the M.Mus. degree. The repertoire of the concerts should demonstrate fully the candidate's technical and interpretative skills to the full and it should therefore cover different styles and periods. The study-unit also comprises the programme notes which the candidate is required to prepare for each concert and the dissertation, on a subject related to performance, which shall be of not less than 15,000 words exclusive of notes, bibliography and appendices. Study-unit Aims: The study-unit aims to train the student in the following skills: - Constructing concert programmes - Preparing and practising for concerts - Performing in public - Writing concise and clear programme notes - Researching and writing a dissertation on a subject related to performance Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - understand how to choose repertoire for a concert in an efficient and effective way. - understand the issues involved in public performances and presentations. - discuss issues related to performance practice. - write about repertoire, performance practice and technique in a clear, concise but detailed manner. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - practise in the most efficient and economic manner. - construct programmes, prepare and perform concerts in public. - research material for and write programme notes. - give public presentations and discussions of the works to be performed. Main Text/s and any supplementary readings: Texts will depend on the repertoire which is being studied by the candidate, and will be advised by the tutor to the candidates individually. |

ADDITIONAL NOTES | Pre-requisite Qualifications: A Bachelor degree in Music Studies **September Assessment Session: Students who fail to obtain an overall pass mark will be re-examined in the Dissertation. However, the resit availability for the Oral Examination and Performance is at the discretion of the Board of Examiners. |
