DESCRIPTION | Topics covered are: - What is Health Informatics - Application of informatics in all clinical settings, community and facility based - Informatics regarding management and continuous professional development - Local and international responses to health informatics - Medical devices and their current and future implications in health care delivery - Using technology for patient education and professional development Study-unit Aims: - The overall aim of this study-unit is to prepare the students to the omnipresence and importance of health informatics in patient care delivery; - A corollary aim is to introduce to the opportunities technology can offer regarding continuous professional development. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Describe how health informatics impact on patient care delivery; - Demonstrate basic knowledge on how technology can be effectively used for patient care and education. 2. Skills (including transferable [generic] skills): By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Communicate effectively using electronic mediums; - Incorporate health informatics in health care delivery; - Participate in online forums using the UoM official VLE.
