DESCRIPTION | During this study-unit, the student will be required to develop competence and safe practice in all the year 2 domains of competence as delineated in the student's practical portfolio. The domains of competence include: - Personal and Professional Development; - Communication, Teamwork and Cooperation; - Organisation and Delivery of Nursing Care; - Knowledge and its Clinical Application; - Ethical and Legal Aspects of Care; and - Teaching and Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle. This placement in a critical care, mental health,acute or chronic setting is carried out over a 4week period, for a total of 150 hours. The student is responsible for keeping accurate attendance sheets to capture the required number of hours as well as submit them by the stipulated deadline. Study-Unit Aims: At the end of this study-unit, the student will reach the required level of competence, as specified in the Practice Portfolio. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Show evidence of having the necessary skills that would facilitate the engagement in professional development discussions with peers; - Show responsibility and accountability for specific nursing procedures. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Communicate using a broad range of communication skills; - Utilize appropriate interpersonal skills that foster effective interdisciplinary patient care; - Critically evaluates the effectiveness of implemented patient care plans; - Demonstrate ability to provide evidence-based practice.
