| DESCRIPTION | This unit is offered in recognition that an experienced graduate registered nurse will be able to take a leadership role in promoting improvements to clinical, educational and administrative areas of nursing practice. This blended learning study unit enables the student to identify learning needs and to meet those needs in a creative and imaginative way. The unit lends itself to the application of theory and research to specific interventions encompassed in the spectrum of models of care that support nursing practice. It enables the student to apply topics presented separately in the previous course units and to integrate previous knowledge and skills to support problem identification, specialty knowledge and skill development in areas such as but not confined to, decision-making and problem solving, in the context of advancing clinical nursing practice. The overall objectives for this study unit are broad since each student is expected to negotiate and set their own goals in consultation with the study unit lecturer/s. Study-unit Aims The aim of this study unit is to enable students to extend their development of a critically informed personal/professional position on current issues impacting practice within their specific clinical speciality, through which they will continue to engage and to further develop the skills required in advancing their clinical practice. Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Identify issues that have influenced in the past and are currently influencing the development of advanced practice across the globe; - Discuss selected current clinical and professionally related topics such as (but not limited to) clinical judgement and decision-making, risk benefit and risk management, interdisciplinary practice and role development that influence the advancement of nursing practice; - Analyze the unique cultural aspects of own context of practice; - Develop an in-depth understanding of a specific practice issue. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Identify ways of advancing nursing practice within own clinical speciality; - Implement change or to innovate according to the identified need; - Use initiative and independent problem-solving learning skills; - Utilise interpersonal skills and available resources to implement a nursing practice project; - Produce a scholarly report.
