DESCRIPTION Increasing technological advances continue to change the face of health care and subsequently provide the space for multiple nursing roles to advance, morph and develop so as to address the health needs of a variety of diverse populations. Through examining and critiquing clinical governance, past and present leadership theories and practices in nursing, students will explore opportunities for transformative nursing practice within their individual practice settings. Using research findings, they will creatively envision and develop strategies that stimulate innovation, learning and collboration in context of advancing clinical nursing practice.

The blended learning approach this study-unit provides, not only encourages collaboration between the students, but also allows each student to identify their unique learning needs and to meet those needs in a creative and imaginative way. Given that the overall objectives for this study-unit are broad since each student is expected to negotiate and set their own goals in consultation with the study-unit lecturer/s.

Study-Unit Aims:

The aim of this study-unit is to enable students to explore an aspect of their practice through a critically informed personal/professional position on current issues impacting practice within their specific clinical speciality, through which they will continue to engage and to further develop the skills required in advancing nursing practice.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Identify and critique the influence of advanced nursing practice roles
- Appraise issues that have influenced in the past and are currently influencing the development of advanced practice across the globe;
- Analyze the unique cultural aspects of own context of practice;
- Develop an in-depth understanding of a specific practice issue.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge, skill and judgement to articulate an evidence-informed argument for expanded nursing practice in the domain of comprehensive care, education, and/or support of systems
- Use initiative and independent problem-solving learning skills;
- Engage effectively in online discussions to foster a strong community of learners as a means of collaborative ways of working
- Produce a scholarly report.
