DESCRIPTION | This study-unit is composed of both theoretical and practical sessions related to the use of creative art forms in Occupational Therapy, both as a resource and approach for enhancing client centred care . Following from the introductory module in the first year, students will reinforce their knowledge and skill on activity analysis . The students will gain further in depth knowledge about the various creative arts therapies such as music, dance/movement, drama and art. Students will also get the opportunity to participate in various community projects that use the creative arts therapeutically as well as a leisure occupation. Study-Unit Aims: 1. To familiarise students with the different creative arts therapies: Music, Dance/movement, Drama and Art therapies 2. To elicit reflection within each student on the nature of creative occupations and their scope within occupational therapy practice; 3. To experience for themselves how different vulnerable populations experience and respond to the creative arts through students own participation in local community projects. 5. To gain confidence and competence in the use of creative art forms and activities as a resource in therapy and in the promotion of wellness. 6. To enable students to analyse the skills behind each creative art form and reflect on how it can support a client engagement in occupation as well as support a persons’ good health and wellbeing; Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Recognise and identify the different creative art therapy: music, dance, drama and art therapy forms both in theory and practice - Recognise how creative art techniques can be used to support client goals in therapy; - Analyse each art form through in depth activity analysis following participation in different community creative projects. - Appraise the nature of creative occupations for health and wellbeing. - Employ creative arts as a resource in their professional practice; 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - To practice the various creative art forms as a personal and professional resource , for health promotion and prevention with their clients.
